Investing in the future
One year on, we’re checking in with Leyton – our Level 3 Assistant Accountant apprentice.
This National Apprenticeship Week, we’re checking back in with Leyton Williams, who’s been doing his Level 3 Assistant Accountant apprenticeship at Fox Agency, to see how he’s progressed in the past 12 months and what the future holds for him. Over to you Leyton…
Leyton, looking back over the past year, what’s the biggest change you’ve experienced in your apprenticeship at Fox Agency, either in terms of your responsibilities or your personal development?
The biggest change I’ve experienced during my apprenticeship is that I feel more focused and prepared when taking exams compared to when I undertook my AAT L2. I think this is down to Fox Agency as they support me in every way imaginable and really want me to succeed.
You mentioned your mentor, Olivia, was a great support. How has that mentorship evolved over the past year, and what’s the most valuable lesson you’ve learned from her?
It was an understatement saying Olivia was a great supporter. Olivia is always there for me no matter how busy she is, whether it’s helping with work tasks, guidance towards my studying or even personal advice. I’m very lucky to have her as my manager.
A year ago, you talked about learning different accounting software and various finance tasks. What new skills or areas of expertise have you developed in the past year, and which are you most proud of?
In the past year, I have become proficient in the accountancy software we use but also in Scoro. This is especially helpful as this is something that most of the company uses, so it’s important for me to keep up to date with changes and possible issues arising as for a lot of my colleagues, I’m the first person they come to when problems occur.
You were working towards your Level 3 Finance Assistant apprenticeship. Have you completed it, and if so, how has that qualification impacted your work or opened up new opportunities within Fox Agency?
Yes, I am now level 3 qualified, and it has impacted my work in a positive way as I am learning new knowledge and applying that to my work. I just have one final exam to go as a part of my apprenticeship and then I’ll be moving on to studying level 4 with Fox Agency in the coming months.
You mentioned your love of travel. Have you managed to travel anywhere new since last February?
Yes, I’m fortunate to say I’ve travelled to four more countries since then which are Thailand, Spain, Switzerland and Czech Republic.
