Fox does 36 Days of Type

As a designer, I encounter heaps of fonts. They’re key to creative, carrying messaging just as much as the words they shape, but working with fonts is always more interesting if they go beyond Helvetica and take a more imaginative, artistic form. That’s why 36 Days of Type is so interesting.

The annual event sees creatives from around the world post a new letter or number daily for 36 days, finding inspired ways to represent the 26 characters and 10 digits we look at thousands of times every day. Starting as a creative challenge between two designers in Barcelona wanting to break out of their comfort zones, the idea spread, becoming the global phenomenon it is today.

For the last few years I’ve really enjoyed watching 36 days of type unfold across social media, so I decided this year we should get the whole Fox team involved. A nice group of us signed up across the whole business – not just designers, I might add – letters and numbers divided between.

The brief was pretty brief: to create an interesting letterform or number every day. We could use whichever medium or style we wanted: animation, pen and paper, office stationary sculpture – the world was our oyster. Here are the font-tastic (sorrynotsorry) creations we dreamt up…
