2025: Success has never looked SaaSier
Amanda Holmes, Lead Consultant SaaS & Transformation, takes a look at what’s hot in the world of SaaS for 2025, and what’s so 2024.
New year, new opportunities. And that’s never been truer for the SaaS industry. As we kick start a new year, we’re already seeing green shoots in the SaaS landscape.
Trends that we saw in 2024 are going to accelerate, but we’re also going to see some transformational shifts from well-established behaviors and measures, to solutions and models that drive better relationships and experiences. So let’s see what’s in and what’s out for SaaS in 2025.
What’s in
AI and Machine Learning Integration
OK, this is of no surprise to anyone seeing as though AI has been on everyone’s lips, minds and radars for some time now – so what’s different this year?
Well, in 2025 AI goes from buzzword to table stakes. With 87% of SaaS companies reporting improved growth rates through AI-driven personalization, predictive analytics and automated processes, it’s a no-brainer for smarter and more resilient SaaS solutions.
However, it should also be said that although powerful, AI is still a tool and won’t be replacing SaaS platforms. Rather, AI and machine learning will be integrated into everything in order to complement solutions, improve customer engagement and retention to greater success.
Increased Focus on Building Strong Data Foundations
All this integration of AI is highlighting some much needed housekeeping. Namely, the need to improve the accuracy of the input data so that AI can do its thing. Companies with clean, integrated data systems will thrive, while those with disjointed or inaccurate data will struggle to unlock the true potential of machine learning.
Essentially, this is taking one step back to leap two steps forward. With AI models being only as good as the data they’re built on, the foundations need to be robust – which comes down to quality, accessibility and how complete the data is. In 2025, the most successful SaaS operatives will have the stage set for data best practice.
Customer-Centric Solutions
SaaS companies are well ahead of other industries in knowing what customers want – or more specifically, what they don’t. We already understand that businesses aren’t looking for products, but solutions that are intuitive to their needs and personalized to achieving their goals.
In 2025, data will be extensively used to understand what customers truly value and solutions will be designed to address those needs. This is where having strong data foundations play another key role, allowing SaaS providers to be more relevant and engaging than ever before.
Enhancing Sustainability
SaaS companies, by their nature, rely heavily on data centers and cloud infrastructure, so implementing sustainable practices represents both a challenge and an opportunity. We’ll see a continued shift in 2025 toward “Green SaaS” as a response to growing expectations for environmental accountability and resource efficiency within tech.
In actual terms, this means SaaS companies increasingly moving to energy-efficient storage solutions, optimizing software code to reducing processing power, shifting to renewable energy sources, and carbon offsetting as a core part of their offering.
What’s Out?
Rigid Pricing Models
Fixed, one-size-fits-all subscription plans have increasingly gone out of favour. This year, pricing models that have in-built flexibility and agility will be fundamental for SaaS vendors to attract new prospects.
We’re talking BNPL (Buy Now, Pay Later), usage-based and hybrid pricing models that offer increased transparency, simplicity and value, with many vendors having already made the move away from tiered subscription fees. In a nutshell, don’t let your pricing model hold back your growth.
Traditional Security Measures
Basic security protocols like simple password protection, a lack of end-to-end encryption and absence of multi-factor authentication will be finally shown the door as SaaS cybersecurity experiences it’s most mission-critical year yet.
Data breaches are a huge concern for customers and the industry, especially with ever more sophisticated and elaborate methods of zero-day attacks from bad actors manipulating AI to do something harmful. For successful SaaS vendors, traditional security measures simply aren’t up to the task.
Standalone Applications
Frictionless integration is the name of the game for SaaS providers in 2025. Isolated SaaS tools that don’t integrate well with other systems and platforms will be side-lined for robust third-party integrations and API connectivity.
The more standalone the application, the greater the growing pain felt by businesses. With everything working together in harmony, not only is the experience better, but customers see their ROI faster.
Generic User Experiences & Limited Mobile Functionality
Users today expect frictionless experiences across mobile, desktop and other devices, with personalized, AI-driven recommendations and advanced data visualization of complex information… and you can’t do that with a static dashboard.
So customizable workflows are very top of mind for SaaS vendors, allowing customers to see their data in a whole new light in a way that they want to, no matter how, where or on what they work.
Buckle up for a big year
Phew, that was a lot of moving and shaking, but we’re predicting a transformative year for the SaaS industry with AI, data, cybersecurity and personalization at the forefront. Expect big things – we certainly are.
