Five minutes with Chau Yi Wang
Meet our North American Head of Media – Chau Yi Wang.
When Chau Yi Wang saw an opening in our North America team, he jumped at the chance to make his mark. We sat down with Chau to find out what made him make the move, and what skills make him perfect for the role.
Tell us about your career before you joined Fox Agency.
I started my media career in the B2B tech publisher world. I was hooked within the first year and fell in love with all types of media work. From there, I was fortunate to have had the opportunities to work for a few different segments within the B2B marketing industry, from measurement and AdTech, to advertiser and agency. My most recent gig before Fox Agency was at Kingpin Communications (now The Marketing Practice), a B2B tech media agency. I was there for a little over 5 years. I consider myself a huge media nerd – I love almost anything within it, from brand to demand, awareness to lead generation, to pipeline influenced, attribution model, lead/customer journey, ABM, channel marketing, ad-tech, mar-tech, and so much more. To me, there’s never a dull moment in media.
What excited you about the role with Fox Agency?
The opportunity to help clients with their media strategy, executing campaigns, hitting their goals, achieving KPIs, influencing and winning revenue, all of it and more! Plus, I get to join a team led by some of the best leaders that I know. I could go on and on, but I believe there’s a word limit to each question!
What does your new role as Head of Media for North America involve?
I’m working with clients directly to support their media efforts, setting up and streamlining internal processes, helping to create our media offerings and services, and establishing a kick-ass team!
What do you hope to bring to the Fox Agency US team?
Probably my energy and attitude – I believe it’s one of my sharpest soft skills. It’s funny saying that, given most of us are remote here in the US, but it’s the small stuff throughout the day like caring for the people you work with, genuinely wanting to help each other, owning up to mistakes when I’ve made them, supporting teammates when they’ve made an error, wanting to grow with everyone on the team, wanting to teach them what I know and to learn about what they know.
Again, I can go on and on, but you get what I meant. What’s great is that everybody on this team brings a similar energy to work every day, so it doesn’t make what I bring to the table unique, but it’s freaking awesome to work with like-minded professionals.
What has been your biggest professional achievement to date?
I could go digging into my resume and pull out my career highlights on “managing x amount of revenue” or “leading a team of x people accomplishing various KPIs”, but honestly, I think my biggest achievement to date, for myself, is having found a couple of mentors who are willing to teach me, guide me, and give me opportunities. Without them, I would not have accomplished anything much professionally.
Finally, tell us something interesting or unique about yourself?
I’m learning how to DJ and mix songs in my spare time, hoping to be good enough to play at weddings and the likes in the next couple of years. Watch this space.
