How to Delphi: Capturing minute details in incredibly high quality
Video planning, producing and executing for the global aftermarket leader.
Delphi are the global leaders in aftermarket care, with a network of over 2,750 service centres spanning over 150 countries. As part of their Masters of Motion campaign, we were tasked to create content that showed mechanics how to fix aspects of cars through training centres and online training, with a series of videos for their learning platform and YouTube channel.
We headed off to the Delphi training centre in Warwick, armed with all our pre-production notes, cameras and lighting equipment. Delphi instructors were brought on set to be our presenters, and then we got to work.
Each video had a two camera set-up, with our video producer and director behind the lens, while another team member recorded audio. A professional lighting rig lit up the whole training facility, meaning we could record no matter what time of day and still get a polished final look.
Now let us talk about the cameras. The RED Komodo 6k and The RED V-Raptor 8k. Their incredible shutter technology and very wide dynamic range made it the perfect choice for capturing every last detail. Exactly what the brief called for. As some of the moving parts were small and difficult to get to, we used the Laowa Probe lens to access the more challenging areas. If it needed filming, there was nothing stopping us.
After the shoot wrapped, we came back to our studio and edited all the videos in perfect 4k resolution, ideal for YouTube. We used Adobe Premiere and Davinci Resolve software to colour grade the footage, before adding titles and captions with After Effects to highlight specific information. Finally, we translated the original English footage into German, French, Spanish, Italian, Polish and Turkish, allowing the global leader’s campaign to be viewed by a global audience.
A long day with long-lasting results
Shoots like this are always long and labour-intensive, but we take the time to get everything right on the day. The Delphi team are always a lot of fun to work with – so much so that for their Christmas party, we had enough material to make a whole blooper reel with.
The new how-to videos have already seen a steady upwards trend in follower growth, and the views are rolling in. YouTube has received almost three million alone, with over 10 million social impressions. They do the how-to content, we show them how to achieve digital success.
